@Whatsgood, i can definitely see what you mean, and i agree with you, though i probably feel less enthusiastically so. there are tracks i like a lot and other ones that make me just think about the better songs bemis has already written before. i'll give the album a few more spins before passing final judgment, but it's pretty hit or miss for me and my inner fanboy is still holding on and not wanting to jump the gun. pretty disappointing for sure though.

wtf.... admit it again sounds like a half finished demo

I really don't see how it would sound like a half-finished demo.
Bitches be crazy

I certainly don't think this derserves as bad of a rating as a 1. I'd say 1s should be for shit like Waka Flocka, Gucci Mane, Brokencyde, LMFAO, and other absolute garbage artists. It's certainly the "1" of Say Anything's discography, but it probably deserves a 2.5 in the whole scope of things when compared to the best of the best and worst of the worst.

even looking at this album in a vacuum, it's fucking godawful

Not a one 'cause "Burn a Miracle" and some others are cool, but most of this is really just awful.
|

Most of this is lukewarm, at worst. I wouldn't consider any of it "bad", which is why I find this thread so intriguing

I think expectations really ruined a lot of people's perception of this. There's not a bad song on here. A couple of them are only okay but in no world is it a 1.

lol at all these emotional, irrational 1s. Personal rating system indeed.

Doesn't stop me from hating it Andcas. The whole thing is just so... expected, and yet not what I
wanted to expect, at all. For example, I never would've expected Peace Out from Say Anything, but
that's not because it's awesome and experimental and totally cool, but because it's a mega-gay
harpsichord ditty riddled with cliche. Same goes for the weird 'GOD BLESS AMERICA' feeling that
Anarchy, My Dear gives me, which I guess is supposed to be IRONIC or whatever, but it still sounds
dumb, and more universally, the whole record sounds forced. With ...is a Real Boy and In Defense of
the Genre, Say Anything pumped out music that I would have difficulty defining, stuff that straddled
the line between Post-hardcore and Indie-rock like it WAS that line, and while I can't say that
Peace Out and Overbiter sound remotely similar, no song is surprising in and of itself.
Still gets points because Max can write a catchy song like nobody's business, but this is hopefully
the worst thing Say Anything ever writes.
@NeutralThunder12: Yeah I suppose it's more prominent on WARB than IARB but there are still some
pretty angsty moments on IARB. I think it kind of shows up on In Defense of the Genre's second disc
as well.

The Stephen Hawking might be my favorite SA closer, which is saying a lot because All Choked Up, Admit It!!!, Plea, and Ahhhhhh...Men are all fantastic.
