Hans, that ranking is ass-backwards. The Sparrow and Bedazzled Fingernails are probably the two best songs.

^ Ill have to agree with Angel on that one.

Bedazzled Fingernails is fantastic

And Anarchist, I see this is growing on you already, going up to 2.5. Soon you'll have this at a solid 4.5 :p

This album rules. Not the best in their discography but not the worst either, just another solid Mastodon album.

Also i'm seeing them and DEP in November. So stoked. It'll probably be the best metal tour of the year.

Still too early for me to tell where this ranks among their others but I'd rank the songs like this after a handful of spins.

Stargasm

Octopus Has No Friends

All the Heavy Lifting

Blasteroid

Dry Bone Valley

The Sparrow

Spectrelight

Black Tongue

The Hunter

Bedazzled Fingernails

Curl of the Burl

Thickening

Creature Lives

I like their more "out there" stuff like Crack the Skye or Blood Mountain, but there's something really refreshing about the more straightforward approach to the songwriting here. This just rocks, plain and simple.

when people say this is a catchy record I'd've hope they meant it was like a whole album's worth of song like Oblivion but this guy's voice on here isn't suited for "catchiness"

Whose voice? There are four members contributing vocals, mainly the bassist and lead guitarist.

As for Oblivion, it was Brann in the verses, Troy in pre-chorus, Brent/Troy on chorus. So it's not like it is just one guy.

I just finished listening to this from start to finish, and I'm not terribly impressed. However, I will wait to rate it until I can listen to it on my stereo at an unreasonably loud volume.

Troy. And as far as I can tell it's much more centered around him this time, but either way they're not as impressive as they were last time.
