i didn't say you didn't enjoy writing reviews. you can like writing reviews but also consider them a way to advance your career goals... i dont think they're mutually exclusive...

CrymsonBlaze, no condescension meant! It's honestly how I speak to all my friends; by the way, I quite like your avatar ^_^

this is what i want to do, but i didn't appreciate the implication that my primary reason for writing was to build my resume

is pretty strong evidence that you get something out of talking about music.
altho that recovery review was pretty much for metacritic.

It's cool, I do it sometimes too, it just doesn't translate very well into text I think. And thanks!

Shit, I gave up on these guys after Where You Want to Be. I never even bothered listening to anything they've released since then, as 2004 was the year I graduated high school, and I thought it was about time that I "grew up" in terms of my musical preferences. I recently found their first two albums in an old CD case, threw them in my car for fun, and blasted it on the drive down to the shore. I then saw that they had an LP schedueld for release in 2011 and I was sort of excited. This review is incredibly well written, but also incredibly discouraging. I had hoped, wished, for better from these guys. I definitely have to check it out now, but I can't help but feel that the impulse to listen to it comes from the same dark place that makes people slow down and gape at a horrible car wreck. Maybe Adam Lazzara was speaking prophetically when he sang, "This song was only wishful thinking!"
Anyway, awesome review, Adam.

My god, there are so many commas in that first paragraph. I had to read it at least a half-dozen times just to catch up with your train of thought.
WAY too wordy. Reads more like a childish rant than a review. Hate to say it, but this is extremely amateurish.

Yeah, agreed Scorpion. Words are the nemeses of all writers; I threw out my copy of Ulysses because there were just too many fucking words and that final chapter contained no punctuation. I'm going to get around to disposing of Moby Dick and War and Peace within the next couple days; the sheer amount of words concealed within their covers irks me. Joyce, Melville, and Tolstoy were all childish imps. Imagine the gall of those assholes and their smirking, devilish mugs as they each passed the 1,000 page mark.

War and Piece was slightly more tolerable than Moby Dick.
