Final Transmission might become my favorite Cave In record when it's all said and done. It's just lean, mean and doesn't waste a note, the production and quality is stunning considering these were just demos. An Illusion, Shake My Blood, Night Crawlers, Winter Widow, Lanterna and Led To The Wolves are all top-tier Cave In and nothing dips below excellent. Lunar Day and the t/t are the more experimental tracks, with the former being a fuzz/shoegazey kind of droning song similar to Down The Drain off PPB, and the latter being a bare demo acoustic performance by Caleb, supposedly the last thing he recorded before dying. Pretty heavy stuff

I’m gonna wait for the actual album but if they went into a full on direction of An Illusion I’d be happy

It's pretty much in that general direction as a whole, it's very reminiscent of Jupiter. Brodsky sings on the whole thing, there's really only some screaming in the final track and it's definitely not as balls to the wall or heavy as White Silence or Until Your Heart Stops, but Wolves is super heavy and intense.

I'm having a little trouble digesting the new album but I suspect it will be a massive grower

FT feels appropriately incomplete, yet dense and fabulous

I listened to it seven or eight times today lol

Final Transmission is excellent
for demos/first takes, the album has an incredible atmosphere and the songs still feel pretty fleshed out, baring Final Transmission and Led to the Wolves (production shift is pretty jarring)
also the bass on the album is stellar, RIP Caleb

Drums are a little overbearing at times because that snare is bit too loud in the mix but overall, I'm loving the album.

I love the snare and atmosphere haha. The guitar tones and overall density of An Illusion give it a sense of grandeur and space rock vibes.

The transition in Lanterna is ace

Because it's awesome

It's crazy, definitely in my top 5 for 2011 right now. The only track that doesn't click for me is Iron Decibels, but the rest are incredible.

Iron Decibels is one of my favorites
