If you can stomach any of this garbage then you should check out absolutely anything in their back catalog and you should enjoy them more than this. I mean, if your state really is any good.

Yea, I jam most of their discography. This sounds like Dimmu doing what they do. I don't know how someone can dig their last handful of albums and spit on this one.

This and En Sorte have been autopilot, "let the orchestra do the work" bm and not worth wasting time on. Deathcult was listenable only because they were still sorta writing riffs at that point, even though the orchestral stuff still hefted a lot of the weight. Everything after Puritanical has been severely lacking in quality.
|
| |
By quality, you mean guitar riffs? Because the orchestra is pretty quality. By no means is it Brahms, but you can tell it's done right for a metal band.

the orchestrations have been good, but not "make this song all-around enjoyable," 'good.' The quality of the albums in general is what I meant. Puritanical was an easy 4/5, Deathcult a maybe 3.5, and then everything went to hell on En Sorte and beyond.

I hear yah. It's pretty impossible to argue opinions, and our's are obviously not meeting on this album. Maybe you're seeing something I'm not, maybe clockwise... maybe it doesn't matter much.
It sounds like Dimmu doing their thing at this point in time, to me. And I dig it. No, it's not their past albums, but we're not in the past. I'm not looking for regurgitations.

They've clearly gotten lazy and conceited. Seriously? it's been what, 4 years? These guys think they're Metallica these days

It's the old story. You get your 5 album contract and it's the best day of your life. But by album 3 the old problems have resurfaced and you just can't see the point anymore.

Just read this, had a good laugh.

This band seems to have lost a lot of steam after losing ICS Vortex and Mustis

If by steam you mean creativity, they lost that after Puritanical. But if by steam you mean prolificity then yes!
