That was one of my favorite anberlin songs for a while. at least through the Cities era.

Feel Good Drag is a fun song for sure but it never reaches the emotional impact of, say, Paperthin Hymn. It's standard fare for Anberlin single.

oi, it's toxin! I've been meaning to tell you that I've watched Spice and Wolf + Shinsekai Yori + Bakemonogatari. They were all real good watches, especially the first two.

sweet man. i actually haven't finished s&w myself, but my backlog is clearing already (love winter break) and i'll be on that soon.

bake is definitely a weirder watch but it's just as good. i didn't really 'get' it til i started reading some people's thoughts on it (camera angle and multilayered dialogue and perspective switching, etc). it's prob not everyone's cup of tea though.

do you have mal btw

love winter break too! I just finished my last exam today and I have a pile of anime to watch

here you go: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/aadil67&show=0&order=4

just an fyi, in case you didn't know (I didn't): Spice and Wolf is an ongoing light novel, so the anime doesn't actually end per se: it's more of an end to an arc. I thought that there was going to be some sort of epic finale (like Wolf's Rain) but it was just the end of their visit at a town. it was still pretty good though.

haha congrats!

i sent you a friend request btw (jgsa lol). and it's definitely nice to have time to watch anime. i think among doing some research for my lab, practicing piano pretty studiously, and hanging out with friends, i'm just as busy as i was with school. but i have no nagging feelings about wasting my time watching anime when i can be more productive doing something else. haha definitely really liberating.

and i finished S1 of S&W, really fucking great. it's so great watching anime with adults for characters as i have recently. not sure i can digest any more characters with the maturity of high schoolers haha. and unfortunately yeah i know there are a ton of light novels and only four have been adapted into the two seasons. here's holding out for some more though some time in the future.

seems like we have really similar taste, haha. that's awesome

and this part is definitely true: "not sure i can digest any more characters with the maturity of high schoolers" I just started watching Kokoro Connect and the characters are way too cheesy, immature and cliche for me to truly enjoy them. even though the show has a good premise, I think I'm going to have to drop it.

what kind of research do you do, by the way?

Yeah, KC is a mixed bag for sure. I wouldn't necessarily call it cliche, in that characters deviate from their archetypes (or the archetype is explored fully). But a lot of the dialogue is downright cringeworthy. I thought it was alright when I watched it, and it has some interesting ideas if you look at it as an exploration of friendships (e.g. what lines need to be crossed, what secrets should be told). But that was also in a stage where I was OK with immature character---I would probably drop it as well if I started watching now.

And I'm a CS major, so it's more like programming work for a professor's lab. The lab works on neural interactions and my job is to be writing programs that (eventually) will process information from neural imaging in real time (like EEGs) and... do stuff with it. Can't really be more specific about the direct applications since I signed an NDA about the details. I'm pretty new to things though so by "working on research" I really just mean getting to know Android programming inside and outside so that in the coming years I can be a valuable member haha.

wow, that sounds pretty interesting. isn't this an odd time to be doing research, seeing as it's in between two semesters? or are you part of a different schooling system?

I had to take a computer programming course this semester as part of my major and while I can definitely find myself appreciating programming and the wonderful, brilliant things it can do, I doubt I'll ever pursue a career in it. the course left me feeling really disoriented and out of it near the end of the semester, so I have a bit of a distaste for actually performing coding.

ps: I decided on starting The Tatami Galaxy. will probably watch a few episodes tonight and I'll let you know how it goes

yeah, it's not really an official time to be working or anything. but b/c of schoolwork and such i didn't have the time to really learn the fundamentals of android like i thought i would, so i figured winter break is an excellent time to make up for it. it's not like i'm at the university mixing beakers or anything lol.

and yeah programming definitely isn't for everyone. i'm not even sure i would want to be a programmer for my entire life, but it gives me the flexibility and technical knowledge to one day start my own business or something within the field.

good luck with the tatami galaxy! really great anime, even if i wasn't too high on the characters. the last two episodes are magical though. (btw try uchouten kazoku after if you liked the tatami galaxy. it's either the same writer or director, but either way it's really fantastic as well, if unorthodox.)

just finished tatami galaxy!

was a pretty interesting watch, definitely the first of its kind that I've seen. and you were right about the last two episodes - they did a great job tying everything together

I think I'm going to watch Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom now
