I’ve always liked this but I think it’s finally hitting the way it’s supposed to

Oh yeah I forgot that the dude just splices the tape and adds the first 6 minutes of the song onto the end of the song

I remember listening to this during summer nights while looking at constellations when I was a youngster. Seminal, genius music. Miles was in direct contact with the cosmic vibration.

Hmm, I made a very silly claim about the fact I thought Davis was less impressive at his peak than Mingus or Coltrane. Now, that may still be the case (tbc) but then I realised I’ve heard maybe 6 of this guy’s albums in total, lol

This probably stands as my fave. Checked again and it’s sublimely executed chill / fusion. Bold yet relaxing. Cool stuff

banger slammer

often put it on for the students, though the trumpet gets a bit loud for studying. but almost entirely falls on the right side of that vibe

I think Coltrane has a better overall body of work. I also think his body of work is consistently of higher quality than Davis's.

But at their respective peaks, they were neck and neck. Albums like this, BITCHES BREW, ON THE CORNER, or GET UP WITH IT were every bit as stunning as e.g. MEDITATIONS or ASCENSION or OM or A LOVE SUPREME, albeit for very different reasons.

Both are absolute geniuses. Though I gotta say the run Miles had from '65 - '79 is some of the greatest, most consistent music ever created.

Get Up With It is nuts. Enjoying my initial forays into that one but it’s a lot to digest.

I'm still working my way through both discogs but yeah its useless to compare. They're both incredible. I'd say I prefer Coltrane by a bit but Davis is still a genius.

"I still have to check the complete sessions package"

Decided to finally do it. Omg. "The Ghetto Walk" is immense, and "Early Minor" is more beautiful atmospheric ambiance for my soul (although the ambientish feel of the "In a Silent Way" track is unmatched)

I might make this my first Davis 4.5 / third jazz 4.5 (I'm definitely overdue some bumps)

It's such a beautiful, majestic experience. Easier to 'hit play on' than most, yet still full of nuance. Kind of Blue is close, but think I prefer this overall
