I like it way more than that, mostly cos Josh's backing/lead vocals (the lead part he sang in Meet Me at the Corner was fucking outstanding). I suppose I can see your point about the poppy choruses but for the most part they worked for me. High 4/low 4.5.

yea i guess they just grated on me cos the way kiedis is singing these days is nasal as fuck and he's trying to hit notes that are beyond him
that and total lack of effort with lyrics
his voice and lyrics on this album are right in the sweet spot imo

I always found his lyrics to be pretty lolworthy but when he actually tries he can pull out some great stuff and I found a lot of that of I'm With You, particularly Brendan's Death Song and Meet Me at the Corner which are some of my favourite RCHP songs ever.
And yeah he's never been one of my favourite vocalists but he just makes up for that with so much enthusiasm and energy, and he's still going strong at 50 what a machine.

'when he actually tries he can pull out some great stuff'
that's essentially what i'm getting at - he has the ability to write some great shit - just seems like
on the new jams the amount of effort put in by him is disproportionately low compared to the other
dudes and the final product suffers as a result
w/e i guess it'd be harder to give a shit at that age with that kinda cash haha

Idk I think he's been improving as a lyricist recently, especially with those two songs I mentioned - good lyrics from him in their heyday are few and far between imo. I think he's finally beginning to somewhat mature at 50, lol. Better late than never I suppose.

hmm for me bssm/ohm/this have his best words
might have to agree to disagree!

I suppose lol, although I haven't jammed OHM. I just got into IWY so hard recently (didn't bother to check it when it got released) that I really don't understand all the hate for it it's a fucking great album, so yeah I've been singing praise for it a lot. Agree to disagree I suppose.
Have you heard the I'm With You Sessions b-sides man?
|
| |
that makes sense!
yea some good tunes in there i really like long progression/never is a long time/love of your life/pink as floyd/in love dying
having heard the last half dozen many times yet so i can't remember em but yea
how bout you man?

About the IWY Sessions? Only jammed it all the way through once but I remember really liking some
tunes, others not so much. Can't remember which one but one had this crazy climax with Kiedis yelling
his head off and Klinghoffer/Flea going nuts, it was crazy.
Was kinda disappointed with In Love Dying, thought it would be a hard prog jam but Kiedis' lead vocal
melody really pissed me off for some reason, although instrumentally it was a great song.
Will probably listen through it again soon, but then again gotta jam By The Way and Stadium Arcadium
and Mother's Milk again soon too ugh too many jams

yah in love dying would be amazin if it was instrumental

They all do ugh such a perfect song, wish Kiedis could write lyrics like that all the time. Look Around, Rain Dance Maggie and Did I Let You Know are hard jams as well.
THIS I KNOOOOW, YEAH THIS I KNOOOOOW
TAKE ME HOOOOOOME, YEAH TAKE ME HOOOOME
This I know, we're not aloooone
Take me hooooome, take me hoooome
The loud-to-quiet in that chorus is just omg, and ugh Josh's vox do I even need to say it?
|
| |
did i let you know is my fave on iwy such a cracking jam
when josh sings TAKE ME HOME i really do wanna take him home

josh4lyfe.
May be blasphemy but even though Fru is a legendary guitarist I feel like Josh is a better fit for the band, has better chemistry with the other members (especially Flea). Fru's better off solo than in RHCP imo, I'm happy with how things turned out and I'm glad it didn't end with them hating each other or anything.
|
| |
yeah that's true now for sure
the fru/flea chemistry on bssm and this and all their live shit is untouchable tho
but yea watchin the live shows from 2011 compared to now it's amazing how much josh has improved as a guitarist he fuckin rips now, and the jams with him flea and chad are really really great
a lot to be excited about for the next album
ppl a bit harsh to write him off by comparin him to john straight away, remember that bssm was john's second album with em not the first... and considering iwy is about on par with mother's milk... yeah go josh go

Yeah a lot of people really hate him simply because he replaced Fru, they act like he kicked Fru out or something which couldn't be further from the truth.
Fucking hate when people just make up their minds about something sucking just cause there's been a change of band members and then they have that predetermined in their minds and they hate it because they want to hate it. Fucking stupid concept, especially because Josh and IWY both rule hard.
Pumped for the next album for sure although I WANT NEW DOT HACKER!

dot hacker are workin on stuff they might have some jams out by end of the year and maybe even an aus tour omg
