They arent terrible but they are certainly the least memorable by a longshot

"All of 100th windows songs sound like the exact same song"
True. But I happen to really dig that vibe so I enjoy that one from start to finish.
Liked this a lot when it came out but it grew off me pretty quickly. For some reason these tracks don't have a lot of staying power.

Agreed Trifo
It's true that his has more variety, perhaps their most diverse rhythmically which I appreciate. I also generally prefer Massive Attack with Marshall involved. This has some of their best songs like Rush Minute, Pray for Rain, Splitting the Atom, and Paradise Circus but some of the rest is pretty unmemorable. The flash treatment version of Psyche is also superior to the album version.
100th Window has this really engrossing atmosphere and I dig how it sounds so cold and icy, like Kid A sort of.

Paradise Circus is amazing. Half of Pray for Rain is great, and Girl I Love You is a solid track, even if it is kinda just Angel played at triple speed
The rest I would be perfectly happy with NEVER hearing again

Compare to 100th Window... Everywhen, What Your Soul Sings, Butterfly Caught, Prayer For England, and Small Time Shot Away are all stunning
Future Proof and Antistar are very good
The other two tracks are solid enough

I feel like Heligoland is a clusterfuck banquet of a bunch of exotic ingredients that weren't cooked well and don't mesh.
100th Window is a nine-course meal where each dish is comprised of the same few ingredients, but cooked just right and arranged uniquely each time.

Great description. Feel the same way for sure, although I do enjoy this.

ig paradize circus is very popular and a lot of producers remix it in a ton of different electronic genres but i dont think its even close to the best track here and i dont really see love for anything else

It's by far the best track for me but that's not to say that there arent other great ones, I agree it is underappreciated. It may be inconsistent but it has some top tier material.

Definitely agree that this isn't a very cohesive record and the songwriting is quite a drop from Mezz or even 100W, but it has some gems, especially Atlas Air
|
| |
Wtf Atlas Air is one of the worst ones !!
|

Best songwriting here is better than anything on 100th window. Worst songwriting here is worse than... anything theyve ever done lol

Honestly I think this is super cohesive. It all sounds very stripped back and minimal (esp after 100th Window) and kinda feels like a nod to their earlier dub stuff while also being a pretty unique direction for them. I love every track up thru Paradise Circus. I don't like Atlas Air much either, and I really don't like Rush Minute (I even had to look up its name lol). I think this album as a whole is waaaay more enjoyable than 100th Window though. Theres some really cool sound design on 100th Window and the standout tracks are incredible but it looses itself quite often

And for whatever reason I like both Topley-Bird tracks considerable more than Paradise Circus

Wow. That is... a hot take and a half (re paradise circus)

Would be curious to see ur track ratings. For me the songs here range between a 2 and a 5

dang thats a large range for an album you've given a 5, Mezz imo has nothing below a 4
and hey! Atlas Air rules, Girl I Love You is probably my second favorite though cus it gives me major jazzy Radiohead vibes, though the title is kinda tacky
