This album's great. Not as good as Modern Vampires but probably their 2nd best

fan theory: each of the first three vampire weekend albums represents the first, second and third year at university
(not sure where the 4th fits in; bumming about looking for work and missing academic structure?)

I can understand hating Vampire Weekend and their entire aesthetic in general, but it continues to baffle me that this is almost unanimously considered their worst (or second-to-last, only marginally better than Father of the Bride) when it is very clearly their absolute best, even over Modern Vampires of the City.

Honestly the only real misstep for me is 'Cousins'. Too reminiscent of that weird surf-rock style that plagued much of their debut. If e.g. that track were swapped with, say, 'Oxford Comma', this might be an easy 4.5.

this is easily their best and a really heart-breaking listen in hindsight when the breezy charm promised in 2010 was supplanted by the over-arching sense of loss that pervades the album (i.e. i think ur a contra)

This is precisely anti-Doofcore. To be honest I'm surprised you've rated it as high as 2.5. Were you feeling especially buoyant the last (and likely only) time you listened to this? I would've anticipated a 2.0 or even 1.5 from you. (I am not being smarmy, I'm being serious.)
