Kind of want to raise this to a 4 but I don't want to fuck up my pie percentage lol

Album is quite the grower. Regardless, Gavin's work here is smooth as usual.

I find this to be pretty weak compared to their other stuff.

It's an illusion ;)

Seriously though, I wrote it off more than a year but then somehow the time was right and I began to appreciate this new approach they took. 2nd disc is great too.

That being said, yes, FoaBP and some of their others are a bit better.

It just feels too long and bloated, and individual songs don't really stand out. I'll revisit it at some point, but it doesn't grab me like so many of their other albums have.

Just keep digging their other albums and if you've had enough listen to this the next time you put on PT.

I'm not a fan of this album, in fact it's one of the worst Porcupine Tree albums in my opinion. Fear Of A Blank Planet was EXCELLENT and deep and had a lot of great tracks, The Incident has no real standouts and the whole album is just a bore.

It's definitely one of PT's more mundane album...but have you just been skipping "Time Flies" every time you listen? It's one of their best 10+ min. songs, IMO.

I must be the only person here who thinks that this is their best release. "I Drive The Hearse" is unbelievably good.

I enjoy with ease both Dogs and Time Flies despite the so-called copy/paste passages.

And pride is just another way of trying to live with my mistakes,

denial is a better way of getting through another day,

and silence is another way of saying what I wanna say,and lying is another way

of hoping it will go away

@Brick: FOABP was my favorite at first. In Absentia is just the most consistent for me. I used to

think it trailed off after the first few songs too, but now I love every song.

What's your favorite song from them? It's between Blackest Eyes and Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

for me.
