one thing's for sure: in my studies i have found that time and time again time will smile upon art that empowers ones who are unfairly alienated and othered. but time will take its sweet ass time almost every time

I think what cements Meteora as a near-perfect album for me is that it fits right in with the "sound' of the era while igniting that special "you're-only-gonna-find-this-once-in-your-life" feeling. For me, of course.

"i would say its a complete fundamental failure of understanding what art is.... not because people are stupid but because the educational system tends to fail there, and the prevailing culture in most if not all places promotes only a very superficial kind of appreciation for very limited segments of art"

Unironically good thread

Not sure how related this really is to the conversation at hand, but I had the thought the other day that the majority of rock history can be characterized as a struggle between music as a product/commodity and music as personal artistic expression

Like, rock music as a cultural force is fundamentally against the idea that art should only exist to generate profit (hence the disdain towards artists that "sell out"), but it also can't really exist outside the context of mass media without turning into something that's barely recognizable as "rock", and all rock musicians have to reckon with that core contradiction and sort of attempt to square the circle in one way or another.

Faint may be my most nostalgic song ever. I always air drummed the intro like an 8 year old champ.
