"Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia."
First of all, you're picking lines that easily prove your point. Second, that is one of the two songs that I said was like that.

i highly doubt that a band that creates 60 minute rock operas is really subtle.
that's like saying dream theater is subtle. This Message Edited On 05.16.09

Get my television fix sitting on my crucifix
The living room or my private womb
While the moms and brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes and Mary Jane
To keep me insane and doing someone else's cocaine
once again, not subtle.

Pay attention to the cracked streets and the broken homes
Some call it the slums, some call it nice
I wanna take you through a wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to Paradise
They've never been v. subtle, really.

just not this album.
i'm not averse to listening to dookie every now and then. I just don't like this or american idiot.

Ther lyrics may not be genius, but I do love the way he sings them. Songs like Homecoming are so for lack of a better word, epic and just seems much more fun than dookie.
I do love me some dookie tho.

problem with this for me is that it is a concept album, so therefore I will look at it as such.
Concept albums need to have cohesion and they need to have a story full of double meanings and metaphors. this really doesn't have any of that.
I can understand enjoying this as a collective of songs, like dookie, but as a concept album it just doesn't work.
alligator, listen to Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. That is an example of a good concept album, and one that you might like because it has that awesome epic 80's metal sound. sort of like iron maiden but more progressive. This Message Edited On 05.16.09

By "subtle" I meant that the album didn't come across as being overly political, but you can read the lyrics and learn about the story and get a lot more out of it.
Poor choice of words on my part.

the whole point of american idiot was to be a political album. Saying it doesn't come across as being overly political is just kind of stupid.
you can bend an argument as much as you want. It doesn't make something less true.
you like this album... so what? you can like what you like. I stated the reasons as to why I don't like this album, as did everyone else who did not like it. there's no point in arguing with everybody over it. It just makes you look stupid and childish.

Well, it started with me just stating my opinion, then several people told me I was wrong. I'm the childish one...? Alrighty.

That's your opinion, and it's wrong.
Think about what I just said. That's how stupid you look.

not a very smart way to state an opinion. You deliberately picked this fight.
