Fair enough. It's really common where I will 5 a band's album but their previous album I won't like anywhere near as much. OOW is actually unusually high in comparison to others. It's a little weird

Maybe it's cos I heard Grey Britain first

it's usually the way with bands people like, the first thing you hear by them flaws you and everything else from that point usually fails to move you like that first record did. Its n ot always like that but it does seem to happen alot

yeah. another example is with Converge and Axe To Fall

I also think that OOW is more melodic than this, and I prefer Gallows when they do intense and heavy

i'm the same with axe to fall, it was my introduction to converge and even though i own all their albums now and love them all its still that album that i go back to, or jane doe mainly because homewrecker is one of my fave songs ever

ATF is a 4.5 for me, Jane Doe a 4.

weirdly though, Wretched World is my favourite Converge song and one of my favourites of all time.

I love that kind of slow, dark, edgy song

yeah wretched world is awesome, i have ATF and Jane Doe at 5's. I think wretched world works best in the context of the album. It's like 40 minutes of sonic GBH followed by cruel bloom and wretched world which give you enough time to pull your broken ass off the floor and collect yourself again. But even on its own wretched world is awesome it's probably in my top 3 converge songs.

Lots of critics said that the last two songs on ATF were unnecessary too..

fuck that, those last two songs added a whole new dimension to that album which is why it's so good and why i love it so much.

Ahahahahahaha my last.fm plays are full of nu metal crap from a couple of years ago when I used it most and still wasn't that far into metal

I only really use it for the radio thing but it doesn't even work half the time

hey mines no better, i've got 5 finger death punch on there lol. them and pantera were my gym music of choice when i was massivly into my weights and my muay thai a couple of years ago. I've never bothered with the radio because like you said it doesn't work half the time and i'm an album guy so i don't listen to individual songs particularly often. also i've got that much of a backlog of music (approaching 90 albums now) that if i heard anymore music i wanted i'd be filing for bankrupcy and my girlfriend would probably murder me while i slept lol

I listen to whole albums but it's still individual songs that I listen to afterwards. Can't help it.

saying that though, I like the idea of writing a post rock influenced album and my favourite songs are usually around the 7-8 minute mark

i'm becoming more mixed by the day, been listening to black metal for about 2 years now and listening to quite a lot of atmospheric black metal specifically so some of the songs get up to the 20 minute mark with bands like ash borer and fell voices. But the last week i have for some unknown reason started listening to grind completely out of the blue so now i'm listening to 20 minute songs and 20 second ones lol

I can't stand songs shorter than 2m30s so idk if I'll ever get into grind.

do you like altar of plagues? they're pretty much the only atmospheric black metal I listen to

i know of them but havnt checked them out as of yet. If you dont like short songs you'd hate the grind album i ordered yesterday. the band is called gridlink and their "full length" album is 11 minutes and 50 seconds lol. don't think one song is over a minute, it's been awesome chatting with you again dude but i'm going to have to say goodnight because i'm knackered since i've been up since 4am speak to you later dude :D
