a 5, north?
i think even issuing a 5 objectively almost doesn't make sense because the term classic to me has to be considered influential in some way

Idk to me a five can either be influential in the scope of influencing other music, or it can have a huge impact on you personally completely change your musical outlook (the latter would be the reason for the few things I've rated 5)
|
| |
My system for a 5 is either..
Something that redefined a genre of music
OR
Something that I can listen to endlessly without getting bored of

Everyone worries about rating something a 5 because of the "classic" connotation that comes with it.
If I've rated something a 5, then I think it is flawless and has earned completely full marks as an album. Not necessarily a "classic" to anyone else's eyes, of course.

^Exactly. Just because you rate something a 5 doesn't necessarily mean its the next Abbey Road.

Rating something a '5' because its influenced all sorts of music is ridiculous - that suggests you might not even like yourself but you'll rate it 5 anyway, because everyone else is.
I rate something a 5 when it affects me incredibly strongly on an emotional level. Or, in the case of The Black Halo, because I simply can't find a fault with it. But for this one its because of the emotional factor.
And thanks for sticking up for me guys. Appreciated. This Message Edited On 10.29.08

first listen has this at like a 3.3, closer to a 3.5, but not a solid 3.5
will leave assuming itll grow a little.

Underoath records always seem to be growers ...
I'm basing this knowledge solely on this and their last album.

Yeah...the first time I listened to DtGL I liked it a good bit, but I didn't really think it was awesome...over the course of a couple months though it really grew on me...this one however, I instantly found awesome...then it grew on me more after that...

Eh, I'm still not quite a fan of DtGL. It lacks the atmosphere of this record (which I heard first). I've always found it hard to work backwards through a discography.
|
| |
But DtGL has a greater atmosphere than this one ...
|
| |
album's all sorts of awesome

Hell no it doesn't, DtGL completely lacks the apocolyptic/post-apocolyptic, desperate, intense feel of this record. It's just a slightly dark hardcore/metalcore/screamo record.
