First of all I really don't understand why people think it is bad to "sell out". As soon as you see an official shirt with a bands logo or name on it, they have sold their name to that shirt company. Is that so bad? Should that change how you feel about the bands music? Anyway, yes Green Day is one of my favorite bands, which is strange because my next favorite is Matchbox 20. I like every band for the music that they play, doesn't matter if they get played on the radio too much, doesn't matter if they sell their name, doesn't matter if they make new fans. All that matters is I enjoy listening to their music, and playing their songs on guitar. I think this album is great even though I have different political feelings. It is a lot different than their other music but it is still very good.

Green Day "Sold Out" 12 years ago. And if they didn't no one here would no who they were.

I'm a bit confused to what the new Green Day album will be like, will they go back to their old genres? They have done all the 'genres' they can, what next 'dance punk'....

This is Green Day's most mature album yet. It's about time they showed the world that they think with there other head. This is the most Punk pop-punk record ever created and i think it is worthy to be considered among the great punk bands such as the Sec Pistols and the Ramones.

Green Day has changed over the last 5 years, they are starting to make albums that are clearly playable straight through and over and over. Sure this one has an early climax with Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams but the entire album is strong.

The lyrics are clever and yes political. Whats wrong with that? Nothing.

The band is Mainstream. Get you head out of your @$$ if you think mainstream means its crap.

Everything sounds the same?!?!?! WTF are you talking about...

This album is spectacular. I was doubtful after their recent shanagians with the release of shanagians but this album was different. I listened to it in my car on the way home and hated 1/4 the songs the first time threw. But the first 4 songs were solid and then you get to the last 2 songs and I thought WOW I want to listen to that again. I got inside, and played it again on my stereo. Then I riped it to my computer and disected from it the songs I liked... I played those... and relized "oh crap where was that awsome chanting I heard before..." "Oh it was the 5th song..." so I threw that in there too. and then "where was that cool guitar rift uh..." threw St. Jimmy on there two... at this point I decided jsut to play the whole album. and you can listen to the whole album over and over and over... its got everything all put into one neat punk package.

This album is classic. No doubt about it, least not in my mind.

This is far from a classic, and they don't know what they are talking about with the
politics, it's ok to be political but not do what Green Day did and jump on the
fuck the Bush Administration bandwagon to sell albums. This Message Edited On 04.03.06

They didn't jump on the band wagon... If you look the progression of their music over the last several years... look at Warning, its been coming.

Rock music has always been political and has always stuck it to the man when he needed it to be stuck to. And there is alot of Anti-Bush sentiment out there, yes, but maybe there is a need for it rather then just sitting around and living with the current Government. The more you drill into your audience a specific message the more it is realized. And Green Day came out with this album along with the rest in the hopes of not only delivering a message but yes to be successful.

Artists are constantly changing their looks and a good artist will morph his music to the changing times. If this was a replica of all the other music Green day came out with, you'd be bitching just the same. You obviously have a hard on for this band... Your lame over used excuse is weak. Just go back to writing reviews for albums you actually too kthe time to sit and listen too.

I think american idiot is one of their best album: This "punk opera" try to talk about the american society of today and i think is totally realised. The best song in the album is St Jimmy , an explosion rapid punk that make me remember their record Dookie:

I don't care what anybody says, I liked this album. Not as much as some of their others, but enjoyable nevertheless.

Also, browsing through the comments on here, I've noticed four primary groups of people.

First are the cliche-monkeys who toss about the term "sell-out" in a veritable Chicken Little frenzy. To you people I have only two words to say: shut up. Really. Just... shut up.

Second are the fanboys who seem to feel the need to gratuitously justify everything the band does to any and all dissenters they come across. Fanboys, calm down. Seriously. I'm sure Green Day don't give a rat's ass what the people who were already not buying their albums are saying. Those people aren't rich enough to be heard.

The third group are the self-professed anti-scene kiddies who are in reality more scene than the scene kiddies in their ubiquitous pseduo-rebel persona which is nothing more than a cookie cutter image. You are not different. You are a mannequin.

The fourth group is the realists. They know Green Day didn't sell out, they just made a different kind of album. They actually know how to properly use the term "emo." They understand that pop-punk has the word pop in it for a reason, and that is not inherently a bad thing. To this group of people I say, let's ditch this thread and have a beer. This Message Edited On 04.06.06

First, he demonstrated a complete ignorance over the meaning of genres. And then he used the term "sell-out" which he obviously has no grasp over the meaning of.

And to top it all off, he apparently has a phobia of "Shift" keys. This Message Edited On 04.06.06

You mean one pop-punk epic. Homecoming absolutely sucks, but Jesus of Suburbia, well, it's bonerworthy. :p
