me too ^ don't often see people say that. always found Flying a bit of a dud but aside from that, this is incredible.

Blue Jay Way is fantastic, no love lost between me and I Am the Walrus though

that's my favourite Beatles song! the strings...the break in the middle and 'sitting in my English garden waiting for the sun' part is one of my favourite musical moments. and another one later, the outro, where they cycle through all the major chords - one part descending, one part ascending and it's that cycle until the fade, with King Lear shit mixed in. it's insane and amazing.
then they follow up later with Strawberry Fields.

I absolutely, absolutely hate Lennon's voice in that song and the lyrics are forced and stupid as well

he was made aware that people were studying his lyrics in schools and was like 'decipher some meaning out of these ya kents' and deliberately wrote insane stuff that makes little or no sense. so forced is probably right lol. but no less brilliant. it's more of a triumph of production as to why i love it so much.

Yeah I've heard that story and what I always wonder is, why? Why was he so personally offended by people studying his lyrics that he decided he needed to create a song just to fuck with them? I would take it as a good thing that people were studying my lyrics and try to create something meaningful that could reach a lot of people but Lennon was (let's be honest here) a bit of a cunt

i think he was more amused than offended, and found the idea of people trying to construct meaning of those lyrics funny. yeah definitely could be a twat.
better off studying Dylan or Cohen anyway imo. i love and appreciate really talented lyricists but I Am The Walrus is proof that lyrics don't always make a break or so for me, except in really rare cases

Fair enough. I always find myself analysing lyrics even when they really shouldn't be the focus of the music, and of course the Beatles were nowhere near as interesting in that respect as Dylan or Cohen but I still think they could write well when they wanted to, particularly Harrison

yeah dude, agreed. always thought 'and to see you're really only very small and life flows on within you and without you' was genius. found it interesting to hear that mindset from a member of the biggest band in the world

Love that song and mindset of his so much, While My Guitar Gently Weeps also has some fantastic sentiments

that one is basically perfect. the demo/acoustic version on the Anthology 3 album is great too. 'as I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging' is a really cool line
and All Things Must Pass is full of great songs/lyrics. not enough love for that album

Probably my least favorite Beatles album

our avatars basically sum up our reactions to this album.
if a record had Strawberry Fields, I Am The Walrus and Penny Lane along with 25 minutes or so of white noise and queefs, I'd still probably chuck it a 3.

Haha them avatars
I really need to hear All Things Must Pass again, outside of one listen I've only heard Paul's solo stuff. Should probably check the Lennon albums which are supposed to be good as well

Fuck it, gonna get some Harrison and Lennon albums right now

All Things Must Pass is my favourite Beatle solo record by a big margin. not that keen on the jam band stuff at the end, cos it's already long as hell, but you'll almost certainly love most of the songs.
my Lennon collection is pretty small. a Best Of comp and the Plastic Ono Band album. also have a Yoko album from that era and it's insane.
