Yeah they are definitely closer to Mezzanine, less character though. 100th Window is a bit same-y and Heligoland has some dull moments but they're still 4s in my book. Great discography overall.

Heligoland always sounded more like a modern-day Protection to me than Mezzanine, tbh. Although w/ elements of the latter

When I first got this in '04 or so I thought it sounded so dated in comparison to Mezzanine, though I guess a lot of that had more to do w/ the vocals than anything else cos the production on here is sweet. Blue Lines in particular is still one of my favorite beats of all time. I can't even compare this & Mezz really, entirely different albums going for entirely different things

Hmm, interesting! I'll give it a spin tomorrow with that in mind. Has been a while for me. It's a bit warmer than Mezzanine if I remember correctly, and so is Protection of course.

Yeah, totally agree with your last comment. Two different beasts entirely.

the main reason I compare it w/ Protection is because of the minimalism, a word I wouldn't really use for any of their other records aside from those 2, but it does have some obv characteristics shared only with Mezzanine & 100th Window so really it's kind of a "full circle" kind of record I guess. Been a WHILE since I've listened to that one, now that I think of it

Also, kinda unrelated but "I Against I" is the coolest song ever

ya Blade 2

those movies were riddled w/ unbelievably bad CGI but fortunately none of that plagues the scene the track is actually used in

Yeah Demon! They're worth it. Some nice collaborations with Guy Garvey and Damon Albarn on Heligoland too. And 100th Window has some super sexy music and Sinéad O'Connor too...

I've only seen the first one. Remember liking the beginning a lot and it derailing completely towards the end.

Daydreaming is such a jam too. One of their best tracks.

Last two are nothing more than a 3 for me. Never got into anything past Mezz for that matter.

There's a dip in quality after Mezzanine, that's for sure. Still like them a lot though.
