Ugh stfu pyramidman. Goddamnit I now have to wait a couple of years to see them again probably, and I'll probably never hear the Whaler. Shit.

But it's okay because Under a Killing Moon was pretty amazing acoustic and live.
Southern California's Thrice are similarly out of step with emo's current brat pack, but not because they're such chipper guys. Rather, they've lost (along with their major-label deal) what little appetite they ever had for radio-readying their metaphysical math-metal jams. On The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II (the first half of an element-themed quadrilogy scheduled to be concluded early next year), the band burrows deeply into knotty riff science and post-Tool atmospherics. Some of the sound makes for gorgeous fury: "Burn the Fleet" has skyscraping guitars as tenderly vicious as OK Computer's, while "Digital Sea" floats on a lunar ocean of thick keyboard ooze. But a little concision—and a bit of Pete Wentz's tune sense—would've gone a long way.
Wow, this may be the worst review I've read of this album. It's all about sounding cute and generally shows the lack of understanding major reviewing sites have for non-indie genres.

"metaphysical math-metal jams," "emo's current brat pack," and " post-Tool atmospherics" are hopelessly and painfully off-base.

Dear sweet Jesus and the shepherds... whoever wrote that needs to get both hands soldered together so they can never write such garbage again.

I listened to this the other day. It's still very good, but perhaps not as amazing as I first thought. I'll leave my rating where it is for now though.

I think the only weak spots on the album are 'The Messenger', 'Backdraft' and 'Digital Sea', and they are still really good songs.

Digital Sea is my favorite song but the more i listened to this album the less i like it. It's a good album but i dnt see why people thing it's sliced bread 2.0. It has as many weak points as it has strong and half of the songs on each part are not memorable imo.

Digital Sea is my Favorite on Water, did not clarify, but i feel it's the most memorable track...on water...because of its great ending, emitting the feeling of submerging under water. Favorite song on album is The Messenger or The Flame Deluge, can't decide. Anyway, this album still is weak and it being near the top of the Best of 07 list just shows how weak 07 was with music. This Message Edited On 12.23.07

I agree wit hall of this ^^^ its just that i see a lot of songs on both being weak, not memorable, or sounding alike. Now i know this is a concept album and thats kinda how it should be. A good concept album all fits together but has the listener knowing the differences between each individual song. This, especially fire, just sounds like the same-ish song repeated six times and a different song repeated 6 times minus the highlights of the album which fit the concept but also sound original and have some memorable elements.

I really loved this record. I found it to be just a great concept album, albeit a cheesy concept, but a cool one. The water disk is almost flawless, and there are no weak songs except for maybe Lost Continent, but even that is incredible.

I love the Water disc. It's fantastic bedtime listening. Fire packs an almighty punch too. Some of those riffs reminiscent of old Isis are so damn good.
