Hard to pick, since I love almost every song on this, but my top 3 would Radio Free Europe, Pilgrimage and Sitting Still.

Edit: Nice ranking @zak!

Taking into account this is a debut, it takes a step into a previously unheard of ‘alternative rock’ sound while the band play as real cohesive unit, with some of the best backing vocals of all time layered over some of the best guitar jangle ever heard it’s an unparalleled 5.

The ‘did we miss anything’ bit is an album highlight for me.

I much prefer the Hib-Tone version of Radio Free Europe. I love this album a lot but I think I’d put Chronic Town, Reckoning, and Lifes Rich Pageant above it

I have Life’s Rich Pageant on vinyl like a shleb. Absolutely love all the I.R.S stuff the absolute pinnacle for me though is Automatic for the People.

This is one album where I cannot understand a 1.5-2.5 rating.

Definition of a throwaway listen and insta-rate.

I'm not really sure what one's taste would have to be for this to be a 1.5

No small matter that this is unquestionably their masterpiece, given how consistently great they were throughout the 80s

I pretty much unilaterally don’t like anything after Document, save a few songs here and there, and even Document is kinda eh to me. Chronic Town is pinnacle for me, but LRP just adds the tiniest dash of something that breathed new life into their music, that they then went totally overboard with for Document and onwards

Man. Document just has so much top shelf stuff. Disturbance at the Heron House is like a top 10 REM deep cut for me

There’s just too much 90s rem in the mix for me, tho it has been a while so I may revisit soon

Document is a bit too 80s polish but it does have some classics on it.

Honestly I prefer Green to Document. Probably just as consistent but I like the weaker tracks on Green more than Document’s weaker songs, helps that I have a soft spot for Stand
