Have any of you guys actually heard the album Bergtatt?

That's like asking a fat kid if he's heard of cake.

Damn, you guys are hardcore fans of this site (or this album)- I'm shocked to see you responded so quickly. Ultimately, it's not a pride thing for me, bodom, but pointing out contradictions and exposing stupidity leads to enlightenment, and I'd hate for someone to hear this album or read this review and think, "Wow, this really is some well-written, original shit." Some bored metal dude (or, in the unlikely case, chick) will perhaps stumble upon these epic exchanges, be intrigued by my clever prose/wit/editor experience, and actually go out and buy Bergtatt (or find it on some shady website since it's pretty hard to find). The prospect of someone eventually finding superior art with genuine merit is what I care about and why I'm willing to bother posting anything at all.

(Crysis, not sure what your point is about Soilwork. First of all, they are from Sweden, and people generally aren't overly critical about Scandinavian metal lyrics. If they were, Emperor, Opeth, and At the Gates would all look equally childish, and do you really want to go there?

Also, my point was simply that everyone was mocking my "nerdy" word choice when the band you're all defending is much, much worse. We call that HYPOCRISY. No, not the band (also from Sweden), the actual word.)

Dude give it up. No one gives a shit what you have to say, all your points are invalid in the end.

Firstly, if you're a black metal fan you already have Bergtatt. Secondly, it's not hard to find even if you are looking for it. Secondly for someone who has heard both this and Bergtatt I still enjoy this very much and don't find it derivative of the former at all.

Bergtatt is more praised than any Agalloch album on this site. Not to mention, if the "bored metal dude" decides to get into this style of metal, chances are, he'll come across Bergtatt at some point or another.

I just have to ask you who gives a flying FUCK about where the lyrics are from. Saying what you say here is like saying nobody cares about what Nietzsche wrote or said because he's German. You're claiming that people whose first language isn't English have no place writing lyrics that people take seriously simply because, for some reason, you think that they won't be competent enough at the language to write lyrics or poems or stories which can actually mean something.

Now that's closed-minded if I've ever seen it. Grow up. My point about Soilwork is that their lyrics suck and yet you rated their album a 5, implying everything is perfect, so you overlooking the horrid lyrics there yet bitching about the lyrics here is hypocritical. And if you say that the lyrics don't matter because they're Scandinavian and that Agalloch lyrics matter because they're American you are simply playing into what I said above.

Might as well just let him talk and keep sounding like a fucking idiot. He's only making a fool out of himself so if he wants to do that then more power to him.

Ultimately, I guess using big words and writing poetry (even at a clumsy, middle school level) is only cool if you're in a mediocre band from Oregon that "borrows" from brilliant Norwegian black metal. Fuckin' A.

building on Crysis' point, if Soilwork's lyrics don't matter because they are from Sweden, then Ulver's lyrics don't matter because they're from Norway

and another thing, why is everyone paying attention to this dipshit? if you just let him wank his noodle and make himself feel better, and then don't say anything, he WON'T KEEP SAYING RETARDED SHIT.

just a thought.
