Just found ou about this!
While it's a good album, it lacks the technicality of SOP (apart from the bass). I was so eager to listen to another album with Richard Christy on drums but was a little underwhelmed.
It's a great album though, SOP just had the bar very high!

I think if you give it a few more listens it might grow on you further. It certainly was the case for me.

Will definitly do. I mean I like it enough that I just bought the CD so I will definitly give it more spins.

Fabulous album. Believe is one of the best metal songs ever. I wish this album was released under Death though, even with Aymar on vocals

It was cool to read about Chuck's favorite lesser-known albums because Control Denied feels very much inspired by that kind of stuff. For more stuff that sounds very similar to this, check out
Shadow Gallery - Carved in Stone
Jonas Hannson - No. 1 (Control Denied is named after a song of the same name on this album)
Riot - Inishmore
Forte - Stranger Than Fiction
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray (or any Fates Warning tbh)

^ Nice to see a Shadow Gallery rec, they're underrated as hell

Yeah i had never heard of Shadow Gallery but it's obvious they're a huge influence on Chuck's later sound

I don’t remember liking this all that much (3 seems kind, hmm)

Honestly there's days where I prefer this over TSOP

"Don't let the "progressive" thing fool you in the least: this isn't Dream Theater. Control Denied proves you can mix virtuoso playing, clean vocals and tight rhythm, all while staying awake."
definitely isn't as sleep inducing as DT

Hmm. Kinda disappointing after a couple of listens. Tight musicianship but a lot of these songs just seem to go nowhere. Then again, TSOP is one of my least favourite Death albums, so I guess it makes sense this mightn’t be my cup of tea either

Rules. A worthy finale for Chuck surrounded by virtuoso players of on each instrument.
