'this is the most consistent trip hop album for me'

I wouldn't necessarily describe this as consistent, certainly not the MOST consistent (or anywhere near), but it does contain significant high points which elevate it - can't deny that.

All 3 Portishead albums, Mezzanine, Blue Lines, Lamb, At War With Walls & Mazes, Stereophonic Sound Spectacular, Breath From Another, Sound of the Satellites (stretching the pure 'trip hop' boundaries with that one perhaps, but it is a key ingredient) are ALL more consistent for me. Probably forgetting something.

I was gonna say Peace Orchestra as well, but erm maybe that one is a tricky / obviously troublesome comparison. It does have those consistent vibes (certainly more cohesive than this) - but it's a different kettle of fish entirely and relies on repetition / aesthetic, so maybe unfair.

heres my spicy take:

most of the things you mentioned (except for the obvious, obviously) are only more consistent than this insofar as they never peak anywhere near as high [:

I mean you could certainly make that argument, sure. They just don't have as 'obvious' low points imo. A few are admittedly close calls on an overall basis, and why assigning ratings to music is ultimately a futile and very silly exercise, that I nevertheless spend too much time thinking about.

wise words, although that also depends on my general mood and whether I have consumed enough / too much coffee and or beer (time of day depending, usually)

lol, I've just discovered that 'Pumpkin' is sampling The Smashing Pumpkin's 'Suffer' from their Gish lp

Yeah, quite uneven, but that's what I like about it.

Brand New You're Retro is such a banger. Huge smooth criminal vibes. I should have played it at parties when I had the chance.

Best trip hop album of all time. Strugglin' to name any lowlights, but the first half of the album (which is perfect) is a 5 while the second half is a 4.

Wille, 10 years ago post saying he saw them live "With Tool, Snoop Dog and Prodigy. About 10 years ago." The world had some crazy gigs back in the early 00s indeed... That line-up is so crazy I don't even know how to imagine that gig.
