Plus, the switchup in the snare from the 1-3 beat to the 2-4 beat mid-riff. Great stuff

Yeah, I'm jamming the whole album right now. I've always loved how the tracklist of this thing is arranged... fast melodic songs in the first half, power ballad in the very middle as a divider, and then the dense, proggy tracks in the second half. The way it's all organized really makes the 72 minutes fly by

^ 1000%. The vocals are the biggest thing holding this back. Kinda sucks how this and The Stage are my favorite A7X albums, and yet they have the worst vox in the band's discog

the stage is better than this imo

Might be a hot take but I think M Shadows is the worst vocalist in metal. He sounds like a country singer.

@Pika: yeah, that's my favorite overall. Kinda hope they continue that album's direction for the next record
@Kusangii: I don't think he's awful, but he's easily the band's weak link for sure

That's the biggest reason why I could never fully embrace The Stage. Musically it's brilliant and I love that they didn't rest on their laurels musically. But Matt's voice just kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiills it for me.

There’s a decent 38 minute album buried in here.

I just absolutely cannot stand his style. It's extremely cringe to me. They're a decent band instrumentally but he ruins so much.
