I mean if you hear the master bass tracks, all Jason does is follow the riffs that James plays so, frankly, there isn't much of a loss there other than contribute further to the sterile sound of the album

Yeah, you wonder why they reversed it, but Hetfield actually said in an interview that it's a hint: Backwards is the proper way to listen to the rest of the album.



And it is indeed amazing that way.
