Maybe I should give Cult Of Luna another chance. I loved ISIS from the first listen on (Panopticon back then), Wavering Radiant and Oceanic are easily 4.5 albums too.
Not sure where to start with CoL though.

Some fun hot takes and opinions from me that got buried way back when in the thread:
- Tracks 1 thru 3 is the greatest 3 track run in my entire discog
- this is the best “drumming” record I’ve ever heard
- tied with Dirge - Lost Empyrean for best produced post metal album of all time
- I wish they put The Pliable Foe (my fav ISIS song) and Way Through Woven Branches on this. It would be make it may fav album of all time. As it stands now it’s in my top 5.

^That reminds me I need to get into Dirge more. As for the rest, those statements are all perfectly respectable.

generally people prefer either the crisp guitars and ethereal layering of Oceanic/Panop or the intricate, "proggy" sound (more complex drumming, obvious keys, defined song sections) of Absence/Wavering, but every now and then you get someone who mixes things around for some reason or another. and then there's the Celestial crowd (who are still trying to match with a therapist).

Celestial is an underlooked masterpiece. Heavy yet emotive.

way through woven branches and pliable foe not making the cut still irks me

Wavering is a bit wavering for me. Obviously great, but Panop and Absence of Truth are my faves and most played. Most philosophical titles, too. Anyhoo, can kinda see how Wavering is the end.
