Listen to the guitar hero version, much much better
There's also someone on youtube who re-mixed some songs of this and it sounded very good

This actually riffs but the mix sounds like ass. Too gross to even jam with decent loudspeakers. Compared to all the music in the world that can be enjoyd meanwhile.

Not a great mix but not a dealbreaker. As has been mentioned, better mixes are available anyway.

Yes you can still hear how good the best songs are but they are not that appeiling while listening the comercial version.

the 2015 "mastered for itunes" mix is still not amazing, but significantly better than the original. it's available in lossless, and it's also an official release if you are not keen on some random guy's version from youtube or the technically unfinished Guitar Hero mix.

yeah that's my go-to version. It's useless to still hate this just for the sound in 2024 when we have a better edition, since a decade ago
(but admittedly I believe the version on streaming is still the infamous clipping one, so there's that)

I hate the riffs here too

This has aged amazingly well. Yes, the mix sucks. Justice sounded like crap too. But the songs are unbelievably well crafted. I had it sitting at a 3.5 for ages but screw it, it's a 4.

"This is basically their proggiest album alongside AJFA"
lol wat i strongly disagree with this statement
|
| |
i think that's a true statement in that a lot of these songs are maybe overly long and go off the rails into long instrumental sections after the second chorus similar to justice
but in terms of feeling actually "progressive"... master feels like a more appropriate second place. the playing on that album is way more technical overall (kirk's solos especially) and the songs are a bit more adventurous.

I would personally put the Black Album above this and KEA but this is VERY close behind
As for progginess... I think Master has the edge, but this is up there too.

Putting this above Kill Em All is crazy work LMAO.

I guess I'm thinking in the scale of
commercial sounding 🡠---🡢 progressive
it feels very safe in song structure and catchy choruses etc.
like I feel like this is basically radio rock a la Nickelback but if it were thrash metal

Lots of music is catchy and still proggy. They're not mutually exclusive
