The last minute of Pink Cellphone is what gives the entire track meaning though, sure it's vulgar but what's wrong with a little vulgarity am I right

how does it give the track meaning. the beat is fucking ill but that shit at the end ruins it. the whole spoken word thing is godawful too

pretty sure combat is the most underrated and rarely discussed track on here. has the most interesting song structure and the bridge is top tier deftones

I won't get into an in-depth analysis here, but just read the words from this section:

"So your troubles continue to multiply and to grow in a direct result of your being misguided. Deceived. Misdirected. Or fooled. All themes are variations of the basic ego gloried wide theme in which you follow the gospel truth."

Then the ending reveals that the listener has been misdirected the whole time.

Hmmm, interesting. I still think it comes off as more vaguely pretentious than interesting, but I'll keep that in mind next time I listened.

That gets me thinking that the track is more in-place with the rest of the themes of the album than it initially seems. Citing the lyrics of songs like HitE, Combat, Rapture, Mein, and Rats!, there's a lot of stuff that's about butting heads and getting on other people's nerves. Which is just what it seemed like Chino was doing with all the other members at the time. So having an irritating, out-of-left-field track on the album more like an example of the hardships endured making the album. I don't know. But it makes it a hell of a lot cooler.

I like the melody on the chorus of Pink Cellphone quite a bit and it's pretty memorable to me but yeah I get why people wouldn't enjoy it

Agreed. Cherry Waves is tight.
