Few bands could stir up fervent speculation with a simple image. But not every band is Neutral Milk Hotel. Sure, Jeff Magnum's done a fleet of random solo tours where at least one of your friends caught him at a dive bar or bowling alley, but the emblematic indie band hasn't wholly released a studio album since hipster doctrine In the Aeroplane Over the Sea hit shelves (no, not iTunes) back in '98.
The rumor mill started churning today when members of their newsletter received this photo (above). So far, the guesses include a new album, new single, or perhaps a 15th anniversary of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

I got that picture emailed to me from the NMH site yesterday, and I heard about a year ago from Elephant 6 that Jeff and co. were SPOILER ALERT talking about getting back together for a reunion tour which might be why that picture has the Guitar Man with some new drummer guy.
