probably a repost, but the vocals on Guest House here are gnarly and Alexis' crowd interactions are hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFYz9W_ErhM

yes johnny. much to love here.

Glad to have touched base, although it's still a little underwhelming! Satan In The Wait and Guest House deliver, I'll give them that. Less Sex is almost a steal but doesn't really develop to its full potential (first half sets out in the same vein as The Seer Returns, but it lacks that track's chill value)

I'm getting the clamour and the edge, but not the stakes - the atmosphere and intrigue largely aren't there for me :/ It's like the album constantly follows this template of what *should* sound engaging and unsettling but is so transparent in that mission that I can't get on board with it. Satan in the Wait nails it, Less Sex starts out on exactly the right note, Guest House cuts the crap and comes up trumps and City Song is most of the way there (great moment of release, but the preamble is pretty tepid); the rest is a mixed bag with a few cool moments...
I respect how much they reconfigured their sound here and don't think any of this is outright bad, but the sound of their s/t was much more engaging and I'd much rather jam something like Bad Moon Rising, Fake Can Be Just as Good, or even Times of Grace for the kicks this offers

tl;dr love what this album is about but it's almost too focused in its scope to get under my skin; I my dark, unsettling jams better when I can't pin them down or second-guess their next move as easily
