I gave in and listened to the new single and am disappointed on first listen. I feared after the last APC album that Maynard had lost his vocal power and at least on Fear Inoculum that seems true. The melodies aren’t really engaging and there are none of those usual wow moments on the vocals. Musically it’s strong and it sounds like Tool and there are some big moments that really could have benefited from a big vocal performance to put them over the top.
