Yea I've honestly recently come to the conclusion that I don't really like "pure" death metal outside of a select few bands... namely Death and Bolt Thrower lol

Unpopular opinion but Bolt Thrower are very overhyped imho. I don't get why they're so popular. They have a couple of very good albums but apart from that it's just decent slab of dm on repeat with little variety. Way better dm bands out there imo, but I know most people love Bolt Thrower with a passion

sorry budg. i mean i love me some mf and early bathory is cool, but a lot of the “classics” that came after (at least the handful that i’ve bothered to listen to) are anywhere from meh to downright awful.

little variety in Bolt Thrower? Each album sounds distinct, that's for sure. The drum, bass and guitar tones are all amazing on their albums idk what there isn't to like especially on TOL being their most diverse record, probably.
