I fully believe the Raiders will hilariously fuck it up yeah

I wish nothing but very very very very bad things for Patricia so I hope he gets the Chargers or Commanders job (or just never coaches again, yakno, either/or)

Patricia ain’t getting a HC job with all the heat around his performance with the Eagles this season.

Jim Harbaugh, BB and Carroll will all be filling an opening somewhere. My guess is the Commanders throw the bag at Harbaugh (putting both Harbaugh brothers near each other geographically), BB to LAC, Dan Quinn to SEA, and Carroll to Atlanta. Vrabel goes to NE as DC under Mayo, Raiders go for someone like Ben Johnson.

We've evidently casting a wide net so I have no clue what direction we're going it. So far there have been some worrying requests (Philly's OC), some interesting ones (Giants OC; sounds like he schemes well but is a victim of poor QB and line play), and some obviously exciting ones (Ben Johnson).

Also about 50/50 when it comes to offense and defensive coordinators. No idea what to expect from this search, just hope whoever we get can assemble a good staff and bring us into modern NFL. No more run-first bullshit.

The way people talk about Vrabel after we fired him, you'd think he won ten championships with us lol

i don't think vrabel is a hall of fame level coach but i very much feel like he elevated these titans rosters to levels they wouldn't have reached otherwise. they had more success than like 80% of the league during his run.

dude had a few mediocre years... okay? so did mcvay, so did harbaugh, so did shanahan, so did lafleur, so did tomlin, so did carroll, and only one of those guys has won a championship in the last 10 years, so fucking what? nobody who doesn't have brady or mahomes is making the final four every year. dude is unquestionably a top 10 head coach in this league. power struggle behind the scenes bullshit aside, i won't fucking hear that his game-to-game track record justifies firing him so soon. there's at least a 75% chance their next head coach will be a downgrade. and the one after that, and the one after that... just like the three titans coaches in between fisher and vrabel. .

it's not even about vrabel personally but the process of it all. there's only a handful, maybe even single digit amount of guys that are legitimately good head coaches year in and year out, and even less that are as young as vrabel, you just don't let those guys go after what... 1.5 seasons of adversity?? maybe i'll be eating crow this time next year... but this is typically the kind of thing that mediocre franchises do to keep themselves mediocre

like imagine the steelers firing tomlin in 2013 after two consecutive 8-8 seasons? the killer b era was maybe disappointing but does a different coach reach those same heights? i'd venture to say probably not

or if the ravens fired harbaugh after missing the playoffs three consecutive years from 2015-17... are they anywhere near as successful in the lamar-era with a different coach??? especially considering all the different evolutions that team has gone thru solely during the lamar-era??? 100% no

imo the vrabel-titans had pretty much joined this hierarchy of playoff hunt at worst / super bowl contenders at best afc institutions. they played hard af every single game and were always better than the sum of their parts. maybe 6-11 is a little worse than "playoff hunt at worst" but its not like we haven't seen mcvay and shanahan have ever worse records than that multiple times in the last half decade.

Yeah the recency bias against Vrabel has been pretty wild. With Henry, Tannehill out the door and a bottom 5 defense, they are starting at square one again and that might take 3+ years to get the team back on track.

Also, the OG Mayo Man himself Jerod Mayo is officially the first new head coach for the Patriots in the 21st century. Dude deserves it and Kraft obviously loves him, hopefully he can build a good FO around him and be a better attraction piece for free agents this offseason.

Oh damn I didn't have Mayo on my bingo card and I fuck with it

Alex I can see what yr saying about Vrabel and I dunno I'm just kinda on the fence. Nothing will ever be more ridiculous/unfair/dirty than the 49ers firing Harbaugh one, ONE, year after making it to the NFC Championship. Obviously it worked out for both with Shanny and SF and Harbaugh bringing my boys a championship, but still absolutely egregious

There's legit nothing I can say to convince you if you "won't fucking hear it" so I'm not going to try. A lot of why Vrabel was fired was so apparent if you watched the games, but media at large doesn't watch us so can't blame you.

Two losing records in a row including a completely inexcusable collapse that you cannot justify by any means, as well as having a bottom-five-of-the-league offense for three of his six years as HC. Not to mention repeated playoff failures. One magical run five years ago doesn't grant him immunity or, as is reported, total roster control. I wouldn't use Tomlin as an example because you know my thoughts on his overrated tenure.

They are rebuilding and want a fresh vision. I say go right ahead. This team was lifeless long before the roster started to crumble and I had zero trust in Vrabel developing a raw prospect QB.

And if I'm wrong, that's fine! I don't care. That happens in sports, decisions are made and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. The org has made it clear they want to contend for championships and won't settle for mediocrity and I appreciate that. Sometimes in that pursuit, things don't pan out. It won't be some radical GOTCHA moment if it doesn't pan out, I accept the consequences.

And again, he had one magical run with loaded talent and then we perpetually collapsed at the end of the season for four years in a row. The guy wasn't this amazing deity of a coach that people seem to think he was. Was all of this his fault? Obviously no. But that doesn't automatically mean he was the solution.

@slex saying moving on from harbaugh "worked out" for the niners is a bit of a stretch imo. the niners were a dogshit franchise with a new coach every other year for an entire decade before harbaugh. firing harbaugh was the ultimate dogshit move. they hired three head coaches in three years after harbaugh and shanahan won a total of 10 games his first two seasons. the niners got lucky shanahan could finally field a healthy roster in 2019 or else he would've been fired too. the niners had a dogshit process basically the entire 21st century but got lucky with a generational HC/GM partnership. i give their ownership zero credit for anything that franchise has accomplished since steve young retired.

i just find that to be such a doomer take on things.

over vrabel's run (2018-present), the titans won the 5th most regular season games of any AFC team, only behind the chiefs bills ravens, who have arguably had the three best QBs in the league over that time period, and (not until this season) the steelers. the only AFC teams who have made it to the second round more than the titans over that span are the chiefs and the ravens. the only teams to make it to the AFCCG more than the titans are the chiefs and the bengals. did the titans have as good of a roster as any of these aforementioned teams? absolutely not. but they achieved as much/more than all these teams besides the chiefs, bengals, and i guess one last brady/bb pats year.

i don't know how someone can look at that track record, even with these last two seasons, and think "time to move on / we can do better"... especially when this is the best run the team has been on since steve mcnair. the majority of fanbases would kill for that kind of success, "flukes" and "failures" in all. this is not marty schottenheimer and norv turner (or potentially nick sirianni and sean mcdermott who are playing for their jobs this week) underperforming with stacked rosters.

That's totally fair Alex, to be completely honest I don't pay attention to SF and didn't even realize there was that much of a gap between Harbaugh and Shanahan lol

The firing of Vrabel was a quintessential example of a billionaire owner getting bored

I don’t mind the firing of him, but the reasons listed by the owner for the firing were so bad

I mean let’s be fair the Titans drafting has been garbage the last 3 years and they crippled their team by trading away AJ Brown in favor of Burks who has more or leas been a bust, and missing on QBs twice. Not to mention doing all that and then taking flyers on old WRs. That’s not 100% Vrabels fault.

Rarely are things 100% on one person where sports is concerned. What happened with the Titans isn't all on Vrabel but he wasn't a solution. I'm gonna leave it there.

Alright, yeah Titans. Anyway. Congrats Michigan dorks! You brought back memories with how familiar it was:

Winning the game, Dominating the B1G championship, beating bama and then showing an overrated PAC12 team who is boss. Sounds identical to the storyline opening up this first era of the CFB playoffs.
