yeah Def once you clarified I get what you’re talking about. to me the gradual evolution approach to song structure that these guys take is the biggest part of the appeal. you start with a theme and it just keeps mutating and taking you to new places. if you’re looking for more traditional delineation of song components it may not be your thing

Happy that my a bit unwittingly use of the adjective "samey" for this sparked a larger discussion...
So my 'beef' with this (if you even wanna call it like that, given that I am torn between 4.5 and 5) is, that Iwas completely blown away by the singles. incredible musicianship, composing, arrangement, atmosphere, flow and sound and additionally unlike anything I had heard before. Trailblazing! So i was looking forward to 5 it. After liatening to the whole album all of the above was held up by each and every song, 3xcept that there was no more trailblazing. The remaining songs didn't actually add new dimensions. In that way they were more of the mindblowingly good same. And I don't even think that the singles (especially not dissolved orders) are the best tracks on here...
Anyway, no album of the past decade impacted me that much upon release as this one... So I'll bump it

oh no, the RYM chart nerds have discovered this album
I shit you not, there’s a review whose central thesis is “too noisy and the vocals are scary, 3/5”
|
| |
"There was a lot of noise. In my opinion it could have been a lot better if they were not screaming that loud and also if the guitar was smoother. There's a nice hamony, but an harmony that definitively be stronger in progressive rock or hard rock, not in death metal. The problem in that genre is that it's so hard to sustain a strong feeeling in all that noise, that band failed to do that for me. Some track are good when it's smoother, I guess all that good rates are from death fan. 6/10 is my final rate."
5/7 with rice.
