About the hype thing, the hype didn't come from other fans, I'm saying that for like 2+ months before king kunta even dropped all we heard from the few people who had heard it (some music magazines, people in kendrick's camp, pharrell, etc) was that there was a song called king kunta which was insane and a whole bunch of hyperbolic adjectives basically claiming that the song was god, so of course you're gonna get excited for the song. And then he finally drops it and it's like 'oh... Maybe his album won't actually be that great'
As to why it's not great, idk it's just not that good. Hook is aight but the verses are super weak, the beat is not that hot, it drags a bit towards the end, and then there's the fact that literally every other song on the album (maybe barring for free) is just leagues better than it, idk it's just a very skippable song.

I think the beat is lame and I'm not a fan of the lyrics or subject matter coupled with it- these are clearly just a difference in taste, more me saying, 'I don't like the song,' as opposed to, 'the song is bad.'
The female backing vocals, however, are just shit in general and frankly, I find them annoying. By the end, when she REALLY shines, I'm already over it.
