I find this to be pretty melancholic and not dark. In fact, it has tons of uplifting moments like all of Odal. Man that song one of the best they've ever done.

Odal is fantastic, and yeah, this album does feel more melancholic than dark imo

Odal is my favorite Agalloch instrumental.

It's kinda hard to explain the difference between this and Serpent, but it's like Serpent doesn't have much folk (acoustic guitars don't make folk) and it's a lot more brooding and gloomy I guess
It's not bad, it's just not good

I actually completely agree with that bro.

I don't find this album to be very dark at all.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that dark is not a good word to describe this record.

Odal is my favorite Agalloch instrumental, one of their most gorgeous songs for sure.

"the vocals on here are kinda cringe"
A jest, surely.
|

You have to be really blinded by some extremely strong bias toward this album to not be able to hear why someone might think these vocals are cringe.

Or it could be, you know, they're just not.

C'mon Art we agree on a lot of things, I mean we share 90% of the same favorite bands lol

I can understand why someone wouldn't like the vocals but they're not so bad that they're cringe worthy.

Yeah idk how they're "cringe worthy" tbh, but hey whatever helps you guys sleep at night. m/

Agreed fellas, his voice does indeed suit the music very well.
Art no one really agrees on stringent Agalloch rankings and specific shit like that, I mean we both love their albums with The Mantle being best, and that Pale Companion and Black Lake are among their very best songs. We agree on a lot more than you think my brother.
