Digging: Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal

probably my favorite black metal album of all time, and the next closest one is just Fas… fuckin goated band man. There’s like 3 or 4 bands I’ll say that about and these guys might legitimately be the best of them. The run they had from Si Monvmentvm to Synarchy Of Molten Bones is absolutely insane. Whether it was a total masterpiece of a record, some of the best EPs of all time, or amazing long ass songs that might as well be EPs, they were literally dropping straight fucking fire every year.



Furnaces is amazing too and I think Long Defeat is way overhated by a lot of folks, but man 2005-2016, literally a whole ass decade of amazing releases.

This is third for black metal after Fas and Nattens Madrigal for me. Roughly neck and neck with Alphaville, if that one counts. Oddly for how much I love the genre, those, this, and Chaining the Katechon are my only black metal 5s, though I've been seriously considering a bump for A Blaze in the Northern Sky, and Blood Fire Death is also close
