I've experienced 3 completely different stages with this album, now it feels like I'm hearing something else entirely. First stage was my teenage 'pre-core' days, so unsurprisingly it was unlistenable. The second (long) stage was one of appreciation, some enjoyment, but without really wanting to revisit often. I understood it was influential, yet that didn't necessarily translate into a listening experience which came with such gravitas.
However, it really is delivering these days. Stunningly creative and emphatically more atmospheric than I ever would've previously given it credit for. I think getting into post-metal and having more experience with abrasiveness and other core artists must have elevated this. I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened. I'm just glad that it did.

mad how few votes the debut has compared to this, its an excellent album

This will attract all sorts due to rep, debut not so much (unless you managed to get into this one and needed more).
For me there was over a decade in-between checking the two albums

I also heard this quite awhile before the debut but I blind bought the 2 disc edition of this at a local discount shop before I was really into this type of thing. I used to prefer this one by quite a bit but lately they're more or less equals to me now. Love the demo versions of these tracks that are on that 2 disc version

I flip between preferring the debut to this about every month or so

honestly having come back to Botch since listening to mostly other metalcore for the last few years, particularly the bands they influenced, this is on another level completely
big thing that i miss from most metalcore is the noise rock elements Botch had, but even then this shit is impossible to put in a box

the jesus lizard influence is all over this

I need to put Jesus Lizard back into rotation. Noisy stuff included in the cores definitely makes a world of difference

most of my favorite post-hc is what i would call frenetic, and that's a quality that's missing from so much modern stuff imo
like stop detuning your guitars and just give these jumpy riffz

'honestly having come back to Botch since listening to mostly other metalcore for the last few years, particularly the bands they influenced, this is on another level completely' (2)
yeah, I think leaving this be for the longest time and exploring other mxc / vaguely related artists has done this no end of good. 'Context' has amplified it's impact significantly.

This album is so unique. Does anyone else find this minimalistic? I find that’s what mostly sets it apart for me

Minimalistic is possibly an ill-fitting term perhaps (?) but I think you may be referring to the spacing, busyness or lack thereof. It doesn’t bombard you with a relentless pummelling heaviness or cacophony, and that’s definitely an advantage. It certainly isn’t overly busy in its arrangements. I suppose it shares a lot of similarities with post-metal in that regard.

I always felt like the drummer on this held back a lot. Very tasteful. This thing riffs like nobody's business though.

Can we all pay homage to how good the single they released is? I know they said it’s a one off but what I’d give for even an EP of that style

Policing what people do at shows is stupid literally just stand somewhere where it’s not happening if you want to avoid it. Very very few shows I’ve been to have been front to back crowd movement and I have to be in the thousands at this point
