Louis CK was tough to hear cause I've been a big fan for nearly a decade. I saw him live a few years ago and was even prepared to name him one of my role models at a job interview last month, if I was asked. I think with what came out about him he can be redeemed to his fans in the future, but who knows what'll happen if anything.

yeah i dont want to hijack this thread and turn it into a big debate about louis but i agree considering the nature of allegations and the fact he is a comedian, i.e. a cultural anti-pc spokesman for the absurd, he can probably go away for awhile and survive this
~~not excusing what he did it was creepy as fuck~~

The Louie thing bummed me more than this did somehow. I was so disappointed. Maybe its cause i liked Louie as a person. I never knew much about Jesse, i just love his music.

louie is the main reason i started doing stand-up. that one was particularly devastating, even though the rumors had existed for years. it doesn't erase his gross actions, but he was way more self-effacing and contrite in apologizing than jesse was with his empty statement. also his victims weren't children.

i have been avoiding reading about ck cuz lol, but what did he do? and for what purpose?

Agreed, that made more of a difference than I thought it would

@asdfp basically in the early 00s he had a tendency of cornering and jerking off in front of women, all of whom were under his employ. he'd ask for permission first, but that doesn't really reduce the ick factor all that much imo. some of them said that he'd threaten to ruin their careers if they went public.

Did he allow them to laugh?

Did he really say that he'd ruin their careers if they told? I thought his manager would just convince them to not say anything and basically contain the situation.

‘Contain the situation’
Provide new starters with a pair of white sport socks dream catchers? Cheap and effective.

@doof apparently most of them assumed he was joking until he actually did it.
@talons that was what one of the many articles i read said at least. guess i'll look into it further. even if it was the manager making the threats it still doesn't reflect well on louie.

I never heard about louie threatening them, i heard it was his manager. That was one thing i was thinking about in his apology though. If its true his manager was threatening them to shut them up, louie should have called him out on it rather than saying he feels bad for the flak he was getting because he was trying to fix a problem louie caused.

both really good points although i dont know exactly how much i hold that over jesse's head at this point given the potential legal ramifications with a minor
but that also highlights why i think it was worse

definitely. again, i don't condone any of what louie did and find it fucking gross, but his actions were (based on what i've read) a one-off. it happened and then it was done (although he obviously did it multiple times, but you know what i mean). lacey is alleged to have partaken in child grooming, which is a whole other league of predatory behavior and manipulation, even though they're both exploiting the same power structure.
i think it's important to keep in mind that there are varying degrees of sexual abuse, the same way there is a distinction between first, second and third degree murder. not everyone is a cosby/spacey/weinstein. at the same time, i've never been on the other end of it, so i have no way of relating to exactly how the victims have been affected.
it's good that these things are coming to light and we're having these conversations, regardless of whether or not it's happening at the expense of the people we look up to.

why would anyone do any of this, is why i've been asking myself since the beginning

this is such an essential point to acknowledge.
