Well I take it extremely seriously, it's one of the best things on this Earth by a longshot. It just never really occurred to me to spend money on that particular aspect of it.

Listening to music through a proper system or even just a good pair of headphones is a world of difference, definitely worth the investment man

I recently upgraded my hifi from my old technics stereo to a yamaha cd player and amp and some

Cambridge audio speakers, the difference in sound is like night and day.

lol all those artists Mongi likes tried their best to make the record sound as good and detailed as they envisioned it, and Mongi can't even hear like 50% of the stuff because laptop speakers. like I know you love Oceanic, I love that album too, but listening to it with laptop speakers is just sacrilege (I know there are much better examples than Oceanic production-wise, but that's the first one that came to my mind in this case)

Imo what really makes the difference is the master and not the setup. I prefer to listen to a good master with high dynamic range on 30 euros headphones, rather than an ultra compressed remaster on my hi-fi. Your ear is trained to recognize and appreciate the quality that you use to listen to. Probably if you start today to listening to good quality music you won't notice any difference, but after a month you'll be surely disgusted of your older solution.

Mongi buy cheap but decent headphones, download flac with hi DR, and it will be fine.

^ don't listen to this audio heathen

get yourself some proper headphones, e.g. Audio Technica's M50x, Beyerdynamic's 770, Beyerdynamic's COP, Sennheiser's HD 25-1 II, Sony's MDR-1AB

shit like that - depending on your preference (bass vs analytical etc)

I roll with BD's COP because adjustable bass for a myriad of genres. And being built to survive the next apocalypse and guaranteed support for the next 20-30 years.

got a pair of ath m40s which i found somewhere and beyerdynamic dt 880s

the m40s are decent and like 40-50€ on ebay, the latter 150 used -200 new but they're completely worth it imo

while the m40s got more of a flat analytic studio headphone ish sound, the dt 880s sound a little deeper and slightly more bass heavy, they're also comfy af

both are very good for their price though

@Wolfhorde: Now that audio lord has spoken, I bet that Terminal Redux sounds much better on "some proper headphones" isn't it?

Hi-fi headphones reproduces with "High fidelity" what you play. If you play something with a crappy master, well, they'll play accurately crappy.

It does sound good but the issue isn't the quality of the sound, it's the mixing of the instruments and vocals all at a very loud level

You're right, that's what I was trying to say. But if the master sucks, it will sucks even with a 300$ headphones.

calm your horses, bro. I was just hinting at the fact that "get some decent headphones for 30$" is not necessarily the best advice for everyone. And in general master, mixing and gear will come into play for your listening experience depending on what you prefer. If some cheap headphones do it for you (and you don't run into technical issues every 6-12 months) more power to ya.

I mean, some people apparently prefer everything drowned in muddy bass - otherwise beats wouldn't sell as well as they do.

Also buying some hi-end stuff is not necessarily the best advice for everyone. He also said he's poor, so decent headphones maybe are better for him.

Headphones are good, but nothing beats music through good speakers. Only problem may be annoying the neighbours with goregrind at 3 am.

Also, proper metal fans steal theirs from the corporate masters.

The models I mentioned aren't high end and by income, I'm way below the poverty line as well.

"Headphones are good, but nothing beats music through good speakers. Only problem may be annoying the neighbours with goregrind at 3 am."
Both have their merit, headphones are better in terms of bang for your buck-value (higher quality headphones for a lower price in comparison to sound systems) and sound systems have a higher fun factor and you can easily blast some tunes throughout your whole flat.

"Also, proper metal fans steal theirs from the corporate masters."
