I'm still mad at how they were supposed to play in my hometown in 2013 and the concert got cancelled due to "logistics issues" a.k.a. the event sold less tickets than expected. I know it's not the band's fault, but I will probably never be able to see MBV live.

dgmw this is quite fantastic but i feel like i'm missing something that makes this album in particular stand out amongst the pack of, imo equally great records like just for a day, pygmalion, souvlaki (which imo is not even the best slowdive), going blank again, and nowhere, why is it only this one that gets heralded?

hm. guess this is just something i have to keep trying on. i'm just hung up on this feeling like it's "baby's first shoegaze" or something, due to its popularity relative to other great albums in the style that deserve equal respect, maybe i subconsciously expect more from widely heralded albums compared to less recognizable works.

yeah this thing's production process is a meme, but it's absolutely reasonable to view it as a genre benchmark rather than a high watermark. Isn't Anything broke more ground for shoegaze anyway

both other MBV records are at least as worthwhile as this - Isn't Everything forged the main forms of shoegaze out of 80s noise rock/noise pop, and mbv perfected this one's sound across stronger songwriting (for a few songs anyway lol)

yeah that makes sense lol, i'd say the first 2 ride albums are up here with this, first 3 slowdive at/better, i'm pretty sure catherine wheel count? first 2 albums of theirs are good too. i should really sit down with the rest.
