serious question: what is your interpretation of the lyrics for below the salt?

A very good question. I hope someone else can elaborate on that because I'm not sure what they mean.

I have loads of garbled notes on Below The Salt's lyrics somewhere

the first two verses are rather easy but it gets very cryptic after that. there's definitely hope & regret mixed in this one, but what it means precisely is a mystery to me. honestly i don't care, i always liked how unwound evoked certain feelings without making them cheap and banal. i mean i do care, but i like it that it's hard (well, impossible for me) to decipher, and probably intentionally so.

"i want to be above

and beyond the blue too"

sounds quite suicidal

"below the salt means less

than something else i said"

no idea what it means, does below the salt mean something in slang?

i remember reading somewhere that the intent of this album was to emulate 60's psychedelic production and have it mixed with a more modernized "indie" sound, and personally i think that's the best way to describe this album
