I still like this album, plenty of great deep cuts, and I don’t hate the poppier songs as much as most. This is the weakest Spencer album, but I still can’t deny that I really like it. I do hope they go all in on the industrial side of their sound on the next one, but considering comeback records are usually pretty tepid and basic, this album is still really good, if not a bit disappointing.

It’s more than a bit disappointing, it’s a travesty.

They tried to do what BMTH did but failed in almost every way.

Saying that they took that sound as far as they could take it is such a cop-out. I'll use Norma Jean as an example. There isn't much of their sound now that really recalls the days of Bless the Martyr (including band members), but they still retained that heaviness and edge that made them so great and even expanded on it. Underoath completely abandoned what once made them great, including some of the technicality they used to play with.

Plus, these recent interviews with Spencer are so painful to watch. He's turned into such a pretentious cunt.

Well said. Seems like they're on a quest to destroy their legacy.

Spencer is that 14 year old kid who discovered atheism. Except he's 36.

this is better than amo but that isn't saying much. This is so forgettable though plus the best song was a Target exclusive lmao.

@Intothepit: i'm talking very specifically about the sound they cultivated from DTGL all the way to Disambiguation. How wonky and weird can you really get before you decide you need to step back a little? Unless you're Radiohead sometimes you gotta come up with a sort of return to form. This manages to not only sound nothing like any other Underoath album but also recall the simplicity they had on They're Only Chasing Safety. that's just how i see it, take it as you will.

@Dream: as good as those Target tracks are (bought this on CD at a local Target), I feel as if neither of the target exclusives can light a candle to tracks like No Frame and In Motion. hell my stupid ass would probably put I Gave Up above them too.
