In Cauda is my least favorite one of their prog stuff so far

@Talons I think PC isn't cohesive because I don't see any unifying narrative. It's just *songs*, a bunch of them. Rearrange them and nothing really changes in the dynamics of the album. Even Sorceress feels more like a studio album rather than a compilation compared to PC.

I see what you’re saying but for me at least each of those songs in PC are more cohesive than the ones here, which don’t always progress in the best way and have sections that I want to skip.

This is an absolute belter.
Vox, guitar, restraint and groove are all top notch on this
|
| |
Yea the only thing really lacking is the production on the heavier tracks
|
| |
It’s still putupwithable though.
I really do enjoy this one. The last 5 ranked.
Heritage.
This.
Watershed.
Cauda.
Communion.

Well, obviously I'm inclined to disagree with every Opeth ranking, so...
Heritage
In Cauda
Sorceress
Pc
Watershed is pre-retro prog era, so I don't find it fair to include it

I've been coming around to this album a lot. "Will O the Wisp" is spellbinding.

The guitar solo at the end of Will O the Wisp is still one of my all time favorite Opeth moments

Lots of good bits here and even good songs. Just some boring and dry parts sprinkled all over the album.

On Sorceress the songs are short and the ideas are clear. It's an Opeth album without the excessive re-working of things, just plain ideas made into songs. I think that's why each song is distinct and identifiable.

Yea, it's clear Mikael is still trying to change things up a little with each album, I guess. It's a good thing. And more often than not it leads to some amazing songs.

yeah with a few exceptions this ones pretty straightforward which i like

If Opeth makes another shitty prob worship album I'll walk over my Orchid across the Blackwater Park during Morningrise and beat everyone in the band to death to the point of Damnation and Pale Communion and their souls will be devoid of Deliverance and their children will all have Still Life and no more Heritage. rFuckin called it but my soundoff gotd

Sweeps upon sweeps cascade into dull chugs in what seems like an instant, while complicated drum fills amalgamate with out of place bass rhythms, and kill any sense of actual melodic progression in the song compositions. The only reprieve from the lack of consistency is from the few decent sounding acoustic passages; even then, attempts at such like in “Will O The Wisp” come across as sounding like an Avenged Sevenfold “Seize the Day”, or “So Far Away” scratch take.
(Probably one of the worst takes I've seen regarding Will O the Wisp btw)
