^this, more or less.
The first two songs plus "The Pot" and "Right In Two" are great but the rest is difficult to sit through unless you're in the right mood.

The new Tool record could not come any slower. I swear to god, I am BEYOND ready to hear it. And I actually deeply enjoy this record. It is my least favorite Tool LP, though

And that's why the next record is going to fall on it's face. Fans waiting a decade will be disappointed if this is anything short of being up to par with their past material, and they've set the bar high.

And yes, I can see your point there.

It's a good thing I have zero expectations for their next record, regardless of how long I've been waiting.

I heard they just concluded the court case they had been involved in for the last few years today. Everything worked out in their favour, which is awesome. Apparently they're also going to be focusing on a new album now that all that shit's over with.

I love how personal the t/t track suite is for maynard. I mean he's dealt with personal issues in the past in songs like Jimmy and Pushit but its always been cryptic af. 10,000 days doesn't hide behind veils... he needs to get his words out and make amends for the things he said in the past about the subject
"she never told lie, well, mighta told a lie, but never lived one"
its just so goddamn naked and open and I fucking love it

Yea his lyrics are beautiful in the t/t.
"She never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one."
I'm sure she'd be proud of him for writing that cause I definitely believe that saved one is Maynard.

I wonder if he wrote the melody and lyrics after the song was written by the other band members. it truly feels like that wasn't the case but from what I understand they've always done it that way

For that particular song nah it can't be. I mean, maybe by sheer coincidence Maynard wanted the song about his mother to be on the album and picked that one cause it was the most elegant but you never know.

yeah I mean its totally something I can see him pitching to the band. and after that fuck you to her on that certain APC track he probably sought Tool (who are more technically proficient and have a much wider audience to reach to) to write a song in that vein. no way he heard the song and thought "oh yo this could work as an epic and chilling tribute to my deceased mother" lol

From what I've read from these guys Maynard always contributes last, so like Mongi said, he probably just picked the best to suit.

ok well he at the first least asked for an epic drum fill behind the line "Judith Marie"

I remember now, Maynard did just put lyrics to the song. I remember in the biography of Tool, he had lyrics to 10,000 days and wanted a slow-ish song from the band, and he trusted their judgement they'd come out with the goods. And by god did they.
