If you ever see Boney running towards you with a knife just hold up a picture of Tony Iommi and he'll leave you alone.

i'd say cherub rocks got the gaze
No more than most other songs here do really... The guitar tone and layering in almost every track is very gazey.
Like I said before though, it’s a good enough song it’s just not mindblowing compared to what else is here. And between the first two tracks it’s definitely better than Quiet which is easily my least favorite so far. But to my ears Today is where the album really gets goin.

Unrelated, but some parts of this are reminding me a lot of Alcest’s Souvenirs d’un autre monde. Of course this came out 14 years earlier so Neige must be a big fan of this album lol.

Soma-Geek USA-Mayonnaise is my favourite 3 track run ever. All 10/10 songs.

And Today is one of the worst tracks... I'm probably tempting an aneurysm with this but Boney could you do a preliminary track ranking?
Edit: good comparison with Souvenirs though, that album is underrated on this site

Today may benefit somewhat from the fact that I’ve heard it before listening to this; same thing with Mayonaise. Idk if I can rank of the top of my head but I’ll listen again in a bit and give preliminary track ratings as I go to ease up the ranking process.
Tbh though the same thing that’s happening here happens any time I check out a classic album, it always starts with me saying “It’s good but ___” and people get on my case but then by the 5th/6th listen I’m like “Lol nvm this is a classic.”

I feel like Luna is underrated hard. Incredible song.

Tbh most people love Today I think, I'm just a cynic with the poppy singles I guess (I dislike Disarm even more), it's not a bad song just basic.
I really hope you will see what most people see in Cherub Rock, it might just be my favourite opener of any album ever; easily top 5.

Luna is amazing, such a good end to the album and summarises its message well

I love Luna
And yeah Ben idk why so many people here rate Souvenirs below Kodama and Ecailles, Souvenirs is easily my fave by them.

Ben i'm fully with you on Disarm, I actually skip it a lot of the time.

Damn Disarm is great too. Why would you skip tracks anyways, what kind of savage are you??
Album reminds me of Catherine Wheel’s Chrome (which apparently came out exactly a week before this) as well

'Luna' is alright, I dig the simplicity...but it is simple

@Boney yeah it has by far the most unique atmosphere of any of their work (and one of the most unique I've heard in most music), like most people I'd say the songwriting is better on Ecailles and Kodama (Ecailles t/t is by far the best thing they've ever done) but you can't discount that atmosphere
@clay yeah it's melodramatic drivel. Only song I 'dislike' on here. For most of this album Billy perfected his combination of 'good-bad' vocals and cheesy lyrics but accompanied with the strings on Disarm wow it's too much for me
