I'm not really understanding that criticism when thrash is heavily influenced by punk and Hanneman in particular was the more punk-leaning member when it came to Slayer's songwriting. Some of the shorter songs are also among the best here

the criticism is the shorter tracks in the middle just don't ring as memorably in my mind, it's like a bunch of similar sounding tracks where i feel like i have to hang on like a vocal line or something to remember what track i'm on - "jesus saves" and "altar of sacrifice" being the more notable of them

i can't remember jack about the rest other than a vague feeling of aggression, south of heaven worked for me a lot more as a non-fan
