The funny thing is as bad as he's gotten, I can't really see anyone else singing for them. Are there better choices out there? Yes, absolutely, but replacing him with someone else at this point would just feel wrong. Shame about his singing ability now though

shadows has sounded completely fine on the tour for this
worth noting his vox were completely shot at the end of the stage tour and they began writing and recording this in 2018.
i think ultimately the weird vocals on this album are mostly an artistic choice + maybe recorded this before his voice fully came back to him a la slipknot vol3. this album was on the shelf for quite a while it seems

Vocals are fine on this, Shadows got old and has worked his voice to the bone over the last 25 years, are we really going to hold it against him that he worked hard and pushed himself over and over until his voice eventually was shot? What's the point in shitting on someone for giving it their all?

The point is we're discussing how this album sounds so if the vocals sound shot that's going to be part of the discussion lmao

IDK man, the vocals being shot sort of adds to the charm of the whole thing for me. I get not digging them but it grounds this album in a bit of "realism" for me if that makes sense since its just a beautiful mess otherwise

That's absolutely fair yeah. I'm mostly ambivalent about the vocals except in a couple of instances where Shadows sounds outright like he's wheezing and it just doesn't sound pleasant at all (plastic daisies line is I think the most glaring example)

Yeah plastic daisies is a weird lyric/delivery choice. Not Shadow's first misstep in that department lol

I would say A7x is a buckwild band to go to for "realism" but u do u

Yeah I don't know if I would consider this a top tier classic of music in general, but its definitely my favorite of theirs besides city of evil.

I mean it was easily my aoty last year. I’m sure there’s a couple of records that I’ll like more, but yeah I wouldn’t be shocked at all if come 2030 this is in my top 10 of the decade

Just looking at fives that I’ve given over the last three years…
New Chelsea Wolfe (maybe, idk it just came out)
ETID - Radical (probably not)
King Woman - Celestial Blues (no)
Little Simz - Introvert (shit maybe)
RTJ4 (no)
Static Dress (no, but such an incredible debut record, whatever they do next could be even better. Here’s hoping)
Yeah, I think this is my favorite record of the decade so far at least
