Yeah the atmosphere of this is pretty similar, and just as "miserable and atmospheric" imo. The concept gives it a more dark medieval twist though

This and BWP are their only ones where they really go all out with that style of layered dissonant guitar chords playing super bleak atmosphere riffs which is my favorite style of theirs

they do a pretty good job in GR too. Like, there's a really dissonant part in the middle of Baying of the Hounds and it sounds terrifying

@Talons yeah I love when they get bleak, and this and BWP are my favs too, but sometimes BWP gets lost

in too much bleakness imo. Also, only Damnation shares the same atmosphere than these two

@Choccy To me the use of the organ in the opening riff of The Baying of the Hounds is the highlight,

but yeah that part is awesome to, the whole song is

Damnation may share the same atmosphere, but I think it sounds far too bland overall

Damnation is a work of genius imo, the way they get to keep their classic sound and completely change

their style. Their softer songs were usually put in their albums as calm spots, but making a whole

album with this kind of songs was extremely ambitious and could've been pretty bland, but imo they

successed at making it entertaining and never boring throughout

Grand Conjuration lets the album down so much, but Isolation Years could be my favourite ballad by them

@oni I think they depend on the atmosphere too much on Damnation. Sure, it's nice but it's the same damn thing

throughout the album, and there isn't enough close attention to the actual songs as a result

Oh it has, I just find myself repeating everything again and again. The one thing that is touched upon the least is I&W itself, but I think everyone acknowledges that it's a great album
