Agreed Koris. That sequence is highly enjoyable for me as well.

been relistening to this one in the past few days, honestly maybe it's because of the albums that followed but I feel like I never really heard this album before. Way better than I remembered it, way thrashier/energetic too. And yes, the iTunes remaster makes it even pleasant sounding too. Definitely their late career highlight so far imo ("for what it's worth" someone will add lol, but I'm really having fun with it)

Wow I just listened to the iTunes remaster and it really does sound so much better. I felt like I was listening to the album for the first time!

U3 has kirk's best solo this century i agree

but is the remaster better than the guitar hero rip? at the least i'm not hearing the drum popping, so that's nice.

i believe the guitar hero version also used a different mix which is a huge reason why it sounds so much better. the guy who mastered the original version said it was already compressed to shit when he got it.

Regardless of the production, most of these songs are half baked.

this album went from being the sonic spawn of satan to the healthiest sounding album of theirs released after the black album lmao (though Load/Reload have neat vinyl presses that beat their distorted CDs, the first ones for sure). All the CDs from Load onward are now more bricked than DM's official remaster, crazy.
As for the Guitar Hero version, I don't have it anymore so I must have decided I liked the iTunes more. It probably was a case like "yes the GH is the furthest from the og but it doesn't fully sound like an actual finished product" or something? It lacked body perhaps
"Regardless of the production, most of these songs are half baked."
I'll be honest I would've agreed but after the last few days I don't really feel that anymore. They're a bit too lengthy in places sure (Suicide & Redemption??) but they're mostly flowing well enough I think. All Nightmare Long, That Was Just Your Life, My Apocalypse, Cyanide (that "suicide, I've already died" section is dodgy as hell tho)... lotsa good stuff

I think my current Metallica ranking would go as such:
1. MoP
2. AJFA
3. RtL
4. KEA
5. DM
6. Black Album
7. 72 Seasons
8. Hardwired
9. Load
10. St Anger
11. ReLoad

St. Anger better than Reload? It does have Fuel, U2, and Fixxxer at least....

It's sort of a principle thing for me tbh. As much as I'm not a big fan of St. Anger, the intent behind the album actually bumps it up a point or so for me (check my review of that album for more of an explanation). But in the case of ReLoad, it's just a bunch of bland, flavorless leftovers from an album that was already too long to begin with. I guess Fuel is fine, but there's not much else I can recommend off the album as a whole

I agree with most of what you're saying, for both St. Anger and Reload, but I do enjoy the 3 songs I mentioned more than anything on St. Anger. I attempted St. Anger last week and only got about 15 minutes in before I put on Kill em All.
Fuel is a fun live song. I genuinely enjoy Fixxxer quite a bit. And I'm probably in the minority here, but I enjoy all Unforgivens.
